Just a quick question with hopefully a quick solution.

Problem:  We have less than 25 users at our company and I'm beginning to transition them to IMAP accounts so the messages can be kept on the server where they will be backed up and the messages can also be accessed through webmail.   Every user is experiencing in a matter of minutes of opening Outlook all of their email "disappearing" except the last email message that was sent to them.  If the user closes Outlook and re-opens Outlook then all of the messages are retrieved then the cycle starts again.  Any clue as to why or how to fix?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Fish

IceWarp Windows or Linux version? Whats the Outlook version? Latest IceWarp server 9.3.2? Ive seen something like this, usually its IMAP indexes either on server or client side. Try to rename the imapindex.dat in one of these users mail folders (they will lose status of msgs, if read or not) and if it doesnt work try to move the other dat files to some "test" subfolder or rename/erase them.

But such a problem is really rare afaik, I have many clients using merak and have seen such issue very rarely. Strange that all your users have such issue, so I imagine it can be the dat files server side.

Also try to setup same IMAP account on Outlook Express for example.

regards,
Marcio

Thanks for replying Marcio,

Server is Windows version 9.3.2 and all clients are Windows XP/2000 running Microsoft Outlook 2000 with SP3.  I've tried what you suggested on my account ...  I deleted all the imapindex.dat files along will ALL .dat files in all subfolders of my root folder.  The exact same thing happened again.  I've not tried to use the Outlook Express method, but I will try that also.

Just a bit more info about our setup:

The mailbox folder for each individual user is stored in a UNC path name (\\server\email$\username) with appropriate sharing permissions on the folders themselves.  Could this setup be causing any problems?

Thanks,
FishHook

Ok,

I've tried the Outlook Express method and I got the same results.  Messages are still disappearing and upon closing and reopening OE all messages are downloaded again.  What else could I try?

Thanks,
FishHook

Hi FishHook, in the past we had all the mailbox in a UNC Shared Folder, and we had problems with UID and similar cases like your, can you test to migrate one mailbox to a local server folder?

Best regards.

Thanks for the info Panelsic.  I was wondering if the connection between the server and the UNC share was being broken.   I tried swapping the accounts back over to Local Folders and the problem has went away.  I've since swapped all the accounts to local folders and no user has reported a problem as of yet.

Thanks again for all the help!

Hi, Fish

I guess best to try really other mail clients, webmail, compare, maybe open support ticket.

I dont think the storage is an issue, note however you have to run Merak services under an admin account in common on Merak machine and file server machine. We use such a setup in our LB environment with no problems at all.

regards,
Marcio
