I have been VERY frustrated using the built in Spam Filters within Merak.  I am consistantly getting good emails placed in my Spam and MANY spam messages into my Inbox.

I have tryied to set up Server Rules that say Allow messages from domain X, and mark as Spam any message with a header text of X, but still many of those type messages are not getting filtered correctly.

I guess my main question is what is the difference between Server Level and User Level rules are.

I have removed all rules except the following

1:Y~NEBRASKA.EDU
1:Y~AABP
1:Y~AVC

Which basically say if the text is found anywhere in the header, accept it, and still these type of message are not always placed in the Inbox.

This seems SO SIMPLE, but I can't get it work.  Any Ideas????

Hi, Steve

I think it might be a bit hard to troubleshoot this via Forum. I suggest you send in all the evidence (the messages that are not filtered), your rules (filter.dat) to support, so they can simulate and understand whats going on.

There are other ways, like Antispam Bypass (B) and whitelisting in antispam, however your rules should work. Maybe some other rule is being met and since theres a stop processing it doesnt go to the next rule? Try to move the rule up as the first one, try to add is a global server rule (In mail service/filters). Do telnet tests or use SMTP Traffic test to simulate the problem and see if you can make it work. Check SMTP Logs to see if it says a Rule went into action.

But surely will solve faster if you send the evidence to support... Maybe afterwords you can post here for us the results.

regards,
Marcio
