Since we updated to Version 10, our C:\Windows\system32 folder contains mail folders for both of our domains. These are filling up fast with temp files, even though we installed the server on the D:\ drive. All mail folders point to the correct location on the D:\ drive. (which is much larger) When we remove the folders from system32, they get re-created the first time mail comes to the user. Has anyone else seen this issue? Is there somewhere else I can look to see why this is happening? I have an open tech support ticket, but hoped someone here might be able to help.

Hi, Iramoore

This is quite strange!! You could try to use some monitoring program like Filemon (now replaced by procmon) to try to understand who is saving these msgs, why... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896642.aspx

Maybe you have some domain that is set to use an alternate mail path? Theres an option in each domain where you can set alternate mail path  (in options tab/folder option). BTW you could try to manually set an alternate path here as a workaround. Or maybe you have some content filter that does this?

Its very strange if your paths are correct (check system/storage for mail path) and check each account's path.

Try to create a new domain, check if the same problem happens. Did you find any pattern of which mail gets saved in system32? All of them?

You could always do something more radical like start a fresh installation or rename config folder to get a fresh install, but then would have to setup everything again, reactivate it, etc.

regards

Thanks Marciohumpris,
The problem is resolved now. We did re-install the server, but still had the same issue. Support looked into our server and said that we were set to archive, with no directory specified, In that scenario, the archives go to system32. The odd thing is that when i looked at the admin console, archiving was not checked? So....we turned archiving on, set a good path, and it seems to be working correctly. We'll turn it back off later and monitor it to see if it is still archiving.

Hi, Iramoore

Great that you got it solved. Yes, quite strange! I would check via API to see if somehow it was enabled but in console for some reason didnt reflect. But your tip surely can help others.

Regards

I posted about this months ago, It is a security hole in IceWarp. It is caused by not having an Archive path map listed in backups. If you do not create a backup path for archives it will create the archive in the system32 directory and it will put everything in there including infected email.

Major hole!

Bill
