Hello, my name is Jakub Klos and what I want to show you today is the new Global Address Book multiple Distribution Lists feature in the recently released version 10.4.

I am sure you all know how unique IceWarp's GAL is. It allows you to create and manage multiple GALs with different lists of accounts, merge them, synchronize distribution domain GALs and event more.

With the new version it is also possible to have multiple distribution lists instead of one like it was possible in the previous version.

The new distribution lists concept lets you create additional groups in the GAL and these groups will become distribution lists. So, any user can see not only the members of the list but also easily send a message to all members of the list.

How cool is that? Thank you for your time.

Hello, my name is Jakub Klos and today's short blog will be about some final WebClient enhancements making it to version 10.4.

One of the nice things of the new version is the revamped login page.
The design has been improved and the controls are more user friendly. You have the basic login controls in the center of the page.
At the bottom of the page there are the less used features like Language selector, Skin selector and Tools helper.

The skin selector is automaticaly preset to the appropriate value and you get a nice icon preview too.
Probably the best part is the new Tools helper which allows you to understand and use additional client features of our server. You can download the desktop client, outlook connector and notifier, and you can also see how to configure your CalDAV or CardDAV clients and even more.

Once logged in there is a nicely redone feature that has been always there but users were not aware of it. It is the Attachments View in the mail view panel.
You have a nice dropdown attachment view and if there is more than one attachment the All icon will appear which lets you download all attachments in a Zip file or add all files to your documents folder. I find this really powerful and the new approach is so user-friendly.

Thank you for your time.

Development Notes - IceWarp Server 10.4 GroupWare Folder Synchronization

Image: http://forum.icewarp.com/forum/blog_images/20120316_3.jpg
*
Folder Synchronization*
Today I want to present you the new incredible...

Folder Synchronization
Today I want to present you the new incredible GroupWare feature called Folder Synchronization. Folder Synchronization lets you synchronize GroupWare file folders with real folders and files on your hard disk or file system. Any action you perform on your hard disk will get reflected in GroupWare and vice versa. Which means you use your favorite file manager and then later on WebClient to check and work with documents. Delete, rename, create files and folders as you like.

The folder synchronization can be found in the Permissions dialog of any account in the console. As you can see in the first screen shot each folder type now has folder class dependant icon. This makes it much easier to grasp the folder structure and you can see instantly what are Files folders that you can work with.

I also want to emphasize, do not be confused by the label "synchronization". It does not mean the file storage content gets actually synchronized into GroupWare. Only the folder list and file list (object indices) are synchronized so they can be properly queried in the database. When working with the content of files it is linked directly to the mapped storage or file system (originally it was called File Directory Mapping but was renamed to Folder Synchronization).

Recursive Folders
Initially, this feature worked per one folder and no hierarchy applied. With the boom of cloud storage services such as DropBox and SkyDrive we realized people are really using them. What was missing was the folder hierarchy so all sub-folders would also be automatically displayed and synchronized in GroupWare. This is now quite possible with the latest version.

Private Cloud Storage
In GroupWare you already have a way to store any documents in Files folders and support for Web Folders support over the WebDAV protocol. If you put all these together with WebClient, WebDAV, FTP then you have your own private DropBox or SkyDrive cloud storage solution. But that is not all and you can do more.

Mobile Devices Support
Since IceWarp is fully open-standard compliant you can use any client available on your PC, phone or tablet. You can choose the protocol (WebDAV or FTP with SSL support) and find an appropriate client. There are many apps supporting WebDAV and FTP. My favorite is FolderSync or File Expert for Android. You can even use a Samba (SMB) client when using with the Folder Synchronization because any change reflects in GroupWare automatically. Still not enough?

DropBox/SkyDrive & WebDAV

For those who still feel there could be more, there really is more. How about if I tell you that you can combine GroupWare documents with real DropBox and SkyDrive accounts? It is true and it can be done. Currently, this functionality is only meant for administrators to integrate such services into public folders so all users of the server can benefit from them.

Since DropBox is just a folder on your computer you can easily use the Folder Synchronization to synchronize with any DropBox folder. DropBox supports rights and access to other people accounts so it is all up to you how you configure it.

SkyDrive is a bit trickier. First of all, it is not a folder on your computer so we have to make it as one. SkyDrive supports WebDAV and all Linux, Mac and Windows computers support web folders natively. This also means that you can integrate any other WebDAV account with GroupWare documents. With SkyDrive the problem is how to get the WebDAV URL. Each SkyDrive account has a different URL and the server is always different (depends on how Microsoft designed the whole cloud solution). There are different ways to find out your server. You can google it or just check the URL below.

http://howto.cnet.com/8301-11310_39-...-in-windows-7/

Once you have the URL, just map a new network drive. Type in the URL and choose your drive. It will prompt you for your username and password. After that you are done. The SkyDrive or other WebDAV account is just a new drive or folder in your computer. Use the Folder synchronization feature and you are done.

Frankly, live access to SkyDrive is extremely slow. It cannot be compared to IceWarp's WebDAV solution. But it does not really affect GroupWare performance even though the access to the path and synchronization takes place in real time because the thread design is pretty swell.

Conclusion
I am very excited about this new feature that integrates GroupWare (and also WebDAV) with the file system because it offers so much flexibility. You can use your mobile device to access your server data and even WebClient or IceWarp WebDAV access to checkout your DropBox or SkyDrive data.
Hello, my name is Jakub Klos and the plan for this video is to show you some more of the new features of the upcoming version 10.4.

Lets start with the long awaiting signatures. As you can see you can define multiple signatures, make them default and even select or assign active aliases. But that is not all. The administrator has the option to create and enforce a signature template which can include variables taken from your vCard or simply your details that you can easily edit. Let me give you a short example.

Something even I was not aware is the new Attach vCard option that you can find in the user's option. It will attach your details to any email you write. This ensures that users receiving your email are able to contact you back from your vCard. Sort of comes hand in hand with the new signatures. Additionally, you can import the contact to your address book of course.

Those who have been running v10.3 for quite some time now have noticed the Recovery Items folder. This is simply an archive of all deleted groupware items which can be contacts, calendars, tasks, notes etc. You can use this folder to recover them later or even preview the items. As a bonus you get the Empty Folder action which will delete all the items from this folder similarly as in the Trash folder.

Thank you for your time

Hello, my name is Jakub Klos and the goal today is to give you a short idea of the new resources enhancements.
If I was to explain the capabilities of GroupWare Resources it would be more than just a short blog and so I will not.

Suppose that you are using the old school method to make a resource reservation and schedule appointments with resources.

Let me give you a short presentation.

<Presentation>

As you can see it works seamlessly but what happens if the resource is already in use and there is a conflict? In the old version you would receive
a simple declination email but without a reason. There can be multiple reasons why the request was rejected. It could be a time conflict, resource temporary unavailability or others.

In the new version you will receive a complete reason of the declination. Lets create another resource schedule with a conflicting time.
<create a new time conflict>

Now lets check the response from the server

<Presentation>

As you can see the GroupWare resources are quite powerful. We at IceWarp make things intelligent. Thank you for your time.

Development Notes - IceWarp Server 10.4 VoIP Server Enhancements (2/09/2012)

Image: http://forum.icewarp.com/forum/blog_images/20110209_trunks.jpg

*VoIP @ Home*

Since I am a heavy VoIP user and even at my house there...

VoIP @ Home

Since I am a heavy VoIP user and even at my house there is no land-line but everything is SIP driven and running on IceWarp VoIP server I decided to tune the server usability a bit. I have at least 5 different SIP trunks and only one SIP client phone meaning there is only one SIP connection to the server and everything else is dealt with on the server with different dial plans and trunk connectivity.

Many SIP Trunks

Some of my trunks are gateways to the PSTN line (2 actually), one is for direct connection to the company icewarp.com SIP server, then Skype gateway and some others.
What particularly drove me crazy was what if one of the PSTN trunks were down and I simply needed to make the call. That was my main goal to solve actually.

The Dial Plan

There is a dial plan on the server which checks the number prefixes and decides which trunk to use. Each trunk has an outgoing rule which checks the SIP URI suffix.
So lets say suffix *1 uses one PSTN line and suffix *3 uses the other. Some numbers are routed and rewritten on the server to go with *1 and others with *3. Notice that all numbers on the SIP client are ordinary numbers without the suffix. It is still possible to use the suffix directly but that is not very user friendly right?

So in my scenario all cell numbers go through *3 and other special numbers go through *1. In case I wanted to call a cell number and *3 trunk was down for some reason I could not make the call. Finally, we are at the bottom of the problem. Why *3 for cell calls, well it is much cheaper but *1 can read cell network too.

The goal was to route the cell calls through *1 if *3 was down. There was no easy way to achieve that and I am sure this could be a problem in other PBX systems too.

Trunk Order Matters

So the first step was to make sure that SIP Trunk order matters. The console was changed and Up/Down buttons were added. This allows us to define the same outgoing rules for multiple trunks. Why is that? Well *1 can also listen for *3 suffix. So in a case *3 is down it will fall back to *1 and since it has also rules for *3 suffix it will connect the call using that trunk. That is in fact the whole philosophy. So we can finally the order of trunks matters and we can define the same rules for multiple trunks.

Not Responding Trunks Disabled

This was not enough though. The server internally did not disable the trunk that was temporarily down. The trunk registration behavior was changed and finally it considers trunk timeouts. So if the trunk stops responding it is marked as unregistered and in such cases it will be omitted in further trunk processing and other trunks will take affect. A very smart behavior. What do you think?

SIP Packet Re-Transmit

Last enhancement that was done was the re-sending of the INVITE packet. Since SIP is mainly UDP driven the UDP packet might not reach the destination. In a case there is no response from the other party the request is re-sent every 2 seconds. This is a requirement in the RFC too and all SIP clients follow this routine. The server however did not. So if the first INVITE to the trunk was lost that call could never be established. With this new change the call will go through and everything work as expected.

Finally I am very satisfied and proud how the server deals with packet re-transmits and trunk temporary failures.

WebClient IM SIP Presence Integration

Something completely unrelated to the above. A very long time ago I blogged about the IM roster presence being integrated with SIP presence. Basically, you are aware if the IM user is available on their SIP account and you can call them. It does not matter if they use WebClient, SIP softphone or SIP hardphone. The SIP presence is nicely integrated into the XMPP presence so aware XMPP clients can display the SIP presence status.

It is so much nicer to know the person you want to call is ready to expect your call by just seeing their Phone availability icon. On the other hand do not bother calling people with their phone off as there is no way you are going to reach them unless you will try their land-line or cell phone of course.
Hello, my name is Jakub Klos and today I want to blog about the new exciting feature of WebClient - On-line Files Editing. Imagine that you can edit files online directly from your WebClient.
You do not have to download the file to your hard drive, edit it and upload back but work with files inside of WebClient. It still uses the desktop Microsoft Office or Open Office but editing takes place online over the WebDAV protocol so each change you make is performed directly on the server.

First of all you should be know what WebFolders are and that they are supported by Windows natively. IceWarp Server supports WebDAV and WebFolders easily and you can browse, add, edit, copy, delete, work with contacts, appointments or with any documents easily. Let me show you.

[Presentation]

Any change you make via WebDAV is reflected in WebClient of course. So, when you copy a new file it appears in WebClient and timestamps automatically match.
Now, lets see how you edit documents online. Please, be aware that it works only with the pre-defined set of file types that Microsoft or Open Office supports.
This generally means all documents that can be open with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

[Presentation]

You see how simple and yet powerful this new feature is. Combine it with the revision control system already present in IceWarp Server and you get the best and slick solution out-there. The benefits are vast because you can still use your favorite office tools, it works on Mac, Linux and Windows, all browsers are supported and the whole history of document editing is kept on the server. IceWarp server can also be used as a cloud storage such as DropBox or SkyDrive which you can browse through WebFolders, WebClient and FTP.

Development Notes - IceWarp Server 10.4 New Directory Cache (1/24/2012)

Similarly as my previous blog today's topic is also related to server's performance in high load and huge directory structures.
There are no real cases that would suffer from the issue in a non-load balanced environment but LB yes. So what was the problem then?

When doing mail directory listings (such as in IMAP) without any level restriction the server had to iterate through all folders recursively and this had a bad impact on disk operations which was rather visible in LB environments. Do not take me wrong but most of the
today's file-systems can iterate through their FAT really well but if there are multiple concurrent requests for several huge directories this can become quite of a problem.

In the past we have tried to deal with this problem using several cache mechanisms but they were all file or disk based. They kept the cache in a file and while saving or loading the cache many similar issues occurred (saving or loading a file on a network drive is no good).
Probably the best was the Wave Mode indexing but it still suffered from the problem mentioned above. Before we will change the whole server back-end to a database we decided to make a last and fast directory cache attempt and use a database. It was worth it.

All directory structures are stored in a database and accessed in a database way. There is always only one SELECT and only up to 2 UPDATE statement for any directory action. These changes brought many advantages and only little dis-advantage. Most of the operations are faster
and yield no bad impact on performance of the server.

The only disadvantage is that you cannot alter the file system manually. You cannot delete subdirs.dat or size.dat files (as they do not exist anymore)
You need to do this from the console if you wish to re-index the directories (global option or for each user in the Options tab). You also should not move directories in the file-system or at least re-index using the Refresh Directory Structure button. Should you still need to do some file-system changes
you should use the built-in file manager which ensures all of the actions are properly database driven.

So to summarize the whole topic we can say it tremendously helps with the performance and speed of the server. In the future this will not be needed at all as the whole server will be completely database driven.

Development Notes - IceWarp Server 10.4 Outgoing Queue Optimizations (1/24/2012)

Image: http://forum.icewarp.com/forum/blog_images/20110124_1.jpg

This topic is suitable only for user and administrators who are aware of the how the internal mail queues worked in the server.
There were multiple cases when the outgoing queue got huge and it caused problems while starting the services, server performance and several other improper behavior.
Many of those issues were resolved in the past but there was still some areas of improvement.

One of the improvement is the independent locks for outgoing and incoming queue. Originally, these two used to have the same lock so they affected each other.
This is no longer true and they are completely independent so incoming mails do not interfere with outgoing mails at all.

Another optimization relates to the way how files in the outgoing queue are stored and processed. There is a new multiple directories queue which ensures proper and high performance group operations. The mails in each queue are preloaded and there is no bad impact on the file-system as the subsequent tasks are performed in the memory only.

Simply put all the queue issues were resolved and there is no bad impact on the server's performance. Please, notice that we are talking about thousands of messages in the queue waiting to be delivered that for some reason piled up at one time.

Development is guided by our customers mostly and we pay attention to all feature requests submitted.

IceWarp VoIP server has emerged into a powerful voip, video and conferencing server providing also good IVR functionality.
Not only you have pre-configured echo and voicemail services but the new IVR has gone through many enhancements and usability changes.

Text To Speech

Probably the biggest contribution is the new Text To Speech integration. Honestly, it is not a live TTS yet but rather an offline version of it.
Simply put all files are one time generated. The next logical step is to make it a real time TTS which is not so hard to implement anymore.

So how do you use the TTS? First of all you need to setup the export directory where all your audio files will be stored. This is done automatically for you.
Secondly, you should setup your TTS application. If not set the native Windows Speech API will be used including the voice settings.

There some top quality commercial voices that you can get for Windows Speech API. I can highly recommend Acapela
http://www.acapela-group.com/
but there are even others. It works quite well with the pre-installed Microsoft Anna too.

There is also a simple text to speech application that you can test but is not required.
http://dimio.altervista.org/eng/

Text To Speech Test

There is a Test button you can use to test the TTS integration. Just type in anything you want to listen to and press the Test button. It works a treat.

Text To Speech Action

Also a new Text To Speech action has been added so anywhere in the IVR rules you can add this action. Currently, you need to generate the audio files by the Generate button in the IVR
section of the console. In the future this will be automatic and live and even some variables will be available such as to listen to the server time, the list of your voicemail etc.

Text To Speech API

We have also add the TTS capability to the API so anybody can use it and work with it. The new Java services work closely with the server via the API so it will be the way to use the TTS for live voices.

IVR Test

Another goodie is the IVR Test feature which lets you walk through your IVR settings and actions. It emulates the IVR server and you can use the numeric keypad and navigate through the IVR menu. It will display the current section you are in, play the audio files and support most of the IVR actions. It is a great way to test your IVR setup thoroughly.

IVR Graph Export

Should you be suspicious or curious you can also export the whole IVR to the GraphViz format. It will show you how the jumps, transfers and other actions are setup in your IVR settings.

The new IVR is more than usable and quite some IceWarp customers already use it on daily basis. I am excited for this and cannot wait for more.

Development is guided by our customers mostly and we pay attention to all feature requests submitted. If after reading this blog you wish to submit a feature request for something you would like to have added into the product write this request to DevBlog@icewarp.com. If you have any questions please leave a comment and we will try to address these as quickly as possible.
Since I am a heavy WebClient and GroupWare user I would appreciate to have the rich-text/html editor feature for description in Notes, Contacts, Calendars etc. I even write my blogs as email drafts although I never send them but rather copy the content to the blog.

So we put this on the road map of v11 for WebClient but meanwhile the changes have been done in GroupWare to support this already. This means the database has been prepared and WebDAV (CardDAV, CalDAV) is ready too. We chose the Microsoft's way which uses the X-ALT-DESC iCalendar property for HTML description of calendar items. This way it will be 100% compatible with invitations sent from Outlook containing HTML description.

How many times have you received a vcard in your email? True, I do not receive 50 vCards every day but still, one per week perhaps.
If you want to view the vcard or even add it to your account you have to save it to your HDD as a file, view in notepad and import back via Tools - Import/Export. Quite an annoying thing to do.

I know the WebClient is a web based app but still, why not make it perfect. Definitely better than any other web based email or calendaring clients out there.
So, next time you receive a vCard (for some reason I always get one from people using iMail on Mac ;)) how about just right clicking the attachment? It will allow you to view the vCard in the Contact dialog and you can simply click OK to save it to your Contacts.

It is that easy and you do not lose your sanity, which is good obviously. For those who are note sure what a vCard is, it is a contact information container which may contain one or more contacts including the information such as name, addresses, phones, emails, photos, attachments etc. They usually come in the form of files with the .vcf file extension.

Quite cool, isn't it.

In the upcoming v10.4 we have done many great enhancements and definitely of them is the new AntiSpam IMAP integration.
Not only you get the Spam folder in IMAP, new SpamAssassin features and rules updates but also we introduce the IMAP Auto Black / White List feature.

As the label of the feature gives a hint it does more than this. I take it you are all aware of the AntiSpam Black / White List. Users can control in the WebClient, Outlook Connector, rules and others but they need to manage it manually. Suppose, you receive a spam in your INBOX or a genuine mail in the Spam folder. In the old days you would need to right click the mail in WebClient and select Black List or White List. With the new feature you just move the mail where it belongs.

The move or copy of the email (you can drag & drop of course) will automatically black or white list the sender of the mail. This is not only extremely user friendly as anybody can move or copy mails but it can be used in any other 3rd party mail client and you still control the WL and BL. Suppose that you use Mozilla Thunderbird for some reason (I hardly doubt you would ever use it as you can use Outlook, Connector, WebClient or the DC client of course). You would have no way to control your WL/BL but with the new IMAP integration it will do the job for you.

All you need to do is to drag the mail where it belongs and this teaches the AntiSpam who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. The WL makes sure a mail from your friend will never be marked as spam. And yes of course your friend is already in your Contacts list then he will never be marked either.

Overall, a very neat feature anybody could make use of. Bravo.

Development is guided by our customers mostly and we pay attention to all feature requests submitted.
Development Notes - WebClient 10.4 Google Maps Enhancements (12/10/2011)

Probably the most hidden feature was the WebClient Google Maps integration. It has been there for at least 2 years but people were not sure how to use it. The main reason for this was that Google Maps API was licensed by Google so each API instance had to use a Google Maps ID. You simply had to register your server and input the ID in the WebClient Administration options. I understand this could have been an obstacle for many administrators.

Well, it is not like that any more. With the new Google Maps enhancements we present you these new features:

No Google Maps ID API registration required

Street view

Mouse wheel

Multiple address selection

What does it really mean? Once you install IceWarp Server Google Maps will be available instantly to all users from within their contacts, Tools menu and other places. You can use the street view to navigate better, mouse wheel for zooming in and out and even multiple address suggestions while searching for an address.

Suppose, you are looking for an address and Google presents you with multiple choices. WebClient will show you a map with all places and you can select the one that you like or is more appropriate. See the screen-shot below.

I am positive these changes have great value and make it finally easy for anybody to use the Google Maps integration in WebClient.

Development is guided by our customers mostly and we pay attention to all feature requests submitted.
Development Notes - WebClient 10.4 Calendar Combined View (12/12/2011)

After a short break we will be looking at the new combined calendar view feature in the upcoming version 10.4. You are very well aware that calendaring clients
allow you to view simultaneously multiple calendars. It is really handy an old version of WebClient could already do this but it was not user-friendly.

What were the main problems of the old solution?

There were no color do distinguish between multiple calendars

You had to create a search folder and specify what calendars you want in in

Well, we have overcome these problems and I present you the real and user-friendly solution. It works like MS Outlook but even better. The reason why it is better is that it does not display each calendar in its own view but rather a one view with multiple calendars each in a different color. This allows you to display many calendars simultaneously and still navigate easily unlike in Outlook.

So, how do you use it? Select the Calendar shortcut on the bottom left and you will be presented with all available calendar folders with a check-box for each one of them. Simply select the check-box or the folder to add the calendar to your view. It will automatically assign a new color and you will see the color around the folder's label. The very same color is then used in the calendar view on the right side. The nice thing is that you will still see the original color the user has assigned to the calendar in a small rectangle on the top left of each appointment.

What is new in the feature then?

Check-box for each calendar folder

Color for each calendar

List view support

Original appointment color displayed along with the calendar's folder color

Take a look at the screen shots. If you want to remove one calendar just uncheck the check-box. What else do we have here? Yes, the list view. Did you ever try to use a list view in Outlook in a combined view? Well, it is not possible. You cannot select multiple calendars unlike in WebClient. Just change to list view and you will see the colors of each calendar in each row.

I am excited about this new feature in the WebClient and you will be definitely too.

Development is guided by our customers mostly and we pay attention to all feature requests submitted. If after reading this blog you wish to submit a feature request for something you would like to have added into the product write this request to DevBlog@icewarp.com.
