redolive -> HANGING BLACKBERRY IMAP SESSIONS 9.3.x (9/22/2008 5:05:00 AM)

When we upgraded to 9.3.1 I noticed that there are lots of hung blackberry IMAP sessions.  None in SMTP or POP3, just IMAP.  Some for 10hrs some for 10minutes. Is there no timeout mechanism in Merak?  Why would a session hang for 10 Hours be allowed to stay connected?  I noticed that almost every session with the exception of two other hosts where  randomkey.bis.na.blackberry.com.   Has anyone else noticed this?  It has been happening for a couple weeks now.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  We upgraded to 9.3.2 from 9.3.1 but it appears to still be an issue.

These are probably not hung sessions.

For BES and BIS user's who have configured their phones to receive from their email account, you will notice that the BES/BIS server will maintain IMAP connection to push emails to the phone. They might break for a few minutes every 12 - 15 hours but unless they turn their phone off the connection is effectively constant.

Hi, Guys

I believe Corintian has found the answer. BTW, there is a protocol timeout in Advanced settings in console, which disconnects user if idle for 300 secs (5 min).

Marcio

Just so you are aware... I have not confirmed this, but but believe that BES/BIS employ the use of the IMAP idle command which appears to override, as it should, the timeout setting.
