Howdy...

On previous versions 8.x specifically, when we bound all services to a specific IP address, the outgoing IP address was also the service address.

With 9.1.1 - the outgoing SMTP IP Address appears to be the "base" or default IP for the OS, not the IP specifically bound to all the services.  I can't telnet into port 25 via any of the non-bound IP address, so I know that receiving is setup correctly. Outgoing mail will not go out via the bound IP address.

Is there a setting I'm missing? This is affecting our spam score because the reverse DNS does not respond with our servers domain name.

P.S. I found this in the forum archives:

http://forum.icewarp.com/m_68/mpage_1/key_bind/tm.htm#68

"To set the outgoing IP, edit your Merak bind.dat file in the Merek/config directory.
Add the following line
Outgoing_Bind=XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX (where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is the IP address you want your outgoing email to use) "

I did this, restarted the SMTP service and all is good. :-)

I also found (belatedly) the Storage :: Local Settings option. Is this the same thing??

Should this option really be a part of the Services :: SMTP :: Properties dialog box??

Hi,

I suggest you always test in latest official version.

The binding in system/services is just about what IPs the services are listening to.

Afaik, at least in Windows, the first Ip of machine is used as outgoing IP.

You can change that in a domain, in the options tab, also be sure to mark the respective option to use outgoing ip in domains in Global settings. I think its the same as editing bind.dat manually.

The other feature you talk about is for load balanced servers, so you bind the server to some IP.

regards,
Marcio
